Golden Tassels Hops

Golden Tassels Hops Golden Tassels is one of England’s revolutionay dwarf varieties launched to the trade in September 2003. They are vigorous herbaceous climbers with rough, twining stems, deeply palmately-lobed leaves and small green flowers, male and female on separate plants. The flowers borne on females can be used in dried flower displays or used to make ‘hop pillows’ to aid sleeping. If left, they develop into hops.

Golden Tassels is a dwarf hop climbing to around 2.5m, with scented, pale green flowers in summer and bronzy-yellow, papery cones in autumn. They are a very adaptable all year round hop for fruity bitters. Its hops give a rich citrus character to beers with orange peel and and dried apricots.

How to take hop cuttings

  1. Select a shoot with at least three pairs of leaves. Ask the plant kindly if it would mind sparing one of its shoots.
  2. Snip out the middle leaves.
  3. Bury the shoot in compost.
  4. Set aside and let it grow.
